Message from our 4th Degree Assembly

The Knights of Columbus was formed in 1882 by Blessed Fr Michael McGivney and is a multinational Catholic Men’s Organization.  The Knights founding principals for the 3^rd Degree are Unity, Charity and Fraternity while the principal of the 4^th Degree is Patriotism.  Once you have achieved being a Knight in the 3^rd Degree you then become eligible to advance to the 4^th Degree. 

The Fr Patrick Assembly was formed in 1992 and currently services 3^rd Degree Councils located in Devon, Leduc, Beaumont and the St Peters Council 7070 in Edmonton, Our Chartered FN was Julito Reyes with our current FN being John Gazankas of Leduc. 

The 4^th Degree participates in Remembrance Day Ceremonies, Poppy Sales in Leduc area and Edmonton, Honor Guards for Funerals, Christmas Mass as well as Easter Mass plus numerous other functions for the Catholic Church.  Prior to Covid it held programs at the Elementary Schools in Leduc and Devon on what it means to be a Canadian, history on the various Canadian flags was well as an Essay Contest on what being a Canadian means to you.  During covid these programs stopped with the current Executive attempting to restart various programs. 

This Assembly was also responsible for forms new Assembly in Wetaskiwin, Spruce Grove and Edmonton as well as receiving State and Supreme recognition for its work. 

Some Knights are of the belief the 4^th Degree is largely made up of older men.  This is correct but in order to survive, come up with new ideas to meet the needs of our community, we must have younger members who want to further their advance as Knights, their community and new ideas for programs.  We need you to consider becoming a 4^th Degree Knight. Talk to a 4^th Degree to learn more. 

The 4^th Degree will be having an Exemplification coming up in March/April and we invite you to join our ranks.  For your information we hold Dinner/General Meeting every second month with Meeting either in Leduc, Beaumont or in Edmonton at St Peters.  Transportation is available. 

The 4^th Degree does have a Dress Code where we ask you wear slacks, shirt with a tie being preferred but optional.  Jeans and T-shirts discouraged.  We normally charge $15 for the meal with the Assembly covering the balance.  Our next Dinner/General Meeting is in Edmonton on Wednesday, March 24/26 at 530 pm. 

Our Annual Year End Banquet is slated for Saturday, May 30 in Leduc.  Mass is 5pm followed by a Social at 6pm followed by a dinner at 7pm.  There will be a formal program with the Head Table being brought in by and Honor Guard and a Piper.  Dress will be Regula, suit and/or jacket with tie as well as dress for Veterans and other first responders and decorations.  All 4^th Degree members with their families, guests and potential 3^rd Degree members are encouraged to attend.  Tickets will be available to the various Councils in April at $15/person.
