Everything Starts With the Sanctity of Life

Not enough can be said for the sanctity of life. God has gifted us with something that is intellectually, scientifically, theologically, legally, and eschatologically precious. This miraculous gift of life is the foundation of all our society. Rights and laws all are based on the foundational principle that life is sacred and to be protected. When we lose sight of this, we see the decay of our laws and practices. Once we start putting any kind of measured value or price on a life, it immediately becomes a commodity, and we lose the weakest to the gaping maw of the most horrible evils. We convince ourselves that based on our burden of value that it will make more sense to end a life. Suddenly we become no more than a transaction on the leger. Once we aren’t producing enough to prove our worth, the pressure is on to cut it off. The poisonous ethics of this seep into our lives and spread like cancer. Evil choices are presented as moral dilemma’s to be wrestled with. If Satan can convince us to have this debate, we are already missing the point, and he will win no matter what choice is made at that point. We all lose when we measure someone’s value.

So it is incumbent on good people to uphold the sanctity and gift of life at every opportunity. We need to speak it, show it and live it. Every Knights of Columbus Life program has this underlying moral teaching behind it. Whether the question is on abortion, euthanasia, support for handicapped, slavery abolition, the meaning is the same. God gave us life. It is not ours to take away. If you don’t take part in any program or activity, please keep this message in your heart so you are not fooled by the evil one with layers of semantics. The first issue is life. Nothing moral can be decided after that if the first issue is ignored or corrupted. Do what you can.
