General Meetings
The General Meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month from September through June. Our council general meetings are open to all members of the Knights of Columbus, from any council, with a current membership card. The structure of our meetings reasonably follows the Roberts Rule of Order instruction, in a more intimate and informal manner normally.
The format of the general meetings is that we have a faith formation introduction followed by reporting on the current communications and activities. The bills are discussed and paid. After reviewing any old business that is on the table still, we open the floor to new business to discuss, followed by an accounting of our Good Of the Order list with prayers. Sometimes we have guests attend to make presentations or fundraising requests.
Our Council Executive has a meeting for the executive members monthly on the 4th Tuesday of the month as well. This meeting tends to give a platform to work through some of the finer details of the work that is being done, or the money that is being spent. The executive group can chip away at the information and prepare a recommendation to the council to vote upon. The executive meeting is open to any members of the council who would like to attend as well.
Meetings are not for everyone, that’s for sure. And it’s ok if its not your cup of tea. But we should be grateful to those who do attend and participate because the meetings are the heartbeat of keeping the council alive and kicking. There is no organization of anything without the good work that is done at the meetings. If you are unable or uninterested in attending meetings, you could consider saying a prayer for your brothers that will be in attendance on behalf of the whole membership. There is a prayer on this page that merges the normal Council Opening and Council Closing Prayers said the meetings. It would be helpful if you were able to add your prayers in support of the work of the council and your brothers.
MEETING PRAYER FOR MEMBERS UNABLE TO ATTEND
If you are unable to attend a meeting but would like to support the work of the guys who are there, please find some time on the day of the meeting to say this prayer for them.
Christ Jesus, the way, the truth and the life; Teach us to live the charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism required of us as Knights of Columbus. During tonight’s meeting, guide my brothers in their discussions so that they may thoroughly understand the matters at hand, judge them with knowledge and wisdom, and decide upon solutions that will truly give glory to our Father in Heaven. You commanded us to love our neighbour as ourselves. Strengthen my brothers as they leave the meeting. Help us to live our lives as an expression of our love for You and our brothers and sisters. Give us the courage and generosity to act with perseverance. Bless our actions so that our influence is felt within and beyond this Council. Make renewal within the church and the work of the Knights of Columbus instruments of Your love for all mankind. Amen.

If you have a topic or presentation that you would like to have included in the meeting agenda, please talk to any member of the executive or the current Grand Knight for consideration. Topics must be respectful of the Knights and the Church, relevant to the work of the Knights of Columbus or the Church, and be approximately 10-20 minutes maximum unless otherwise approved. Requests for funding could be delayed until the following month for voting depending on the circumstances.
