Hey guys
This is the off week reminder of our men’s group meeting. This is one of those months though, that we actually end up with two weeks off between meetings. It won’t happen often but for sure a couple times of year when there are actually 5 Wednesdays in any particular month. It’s a result of us meeting on fixed weeks instead of every second week. The reason for that is so that we don’t end up conflicting with other groups who use the room on fixed monthly dates. So as a result of that I think I’m going to probably send out another reminder email next Wednesday as well.
Our next meeting date will be November 5 at 7:00 PM.
Our last meeting we really charged through some verses and digested a bunch of scripture. While it was good to do that, it did seem to leave some of us behind a little. I’m gonna try to make a little more space for us to bounce ideas around a bit and not feel the need to rush. Not too much but at least a little bit. But what would be really good is if you guys could give some thought over the next couple weeks as to what verses you might want to share and talk about. What is your favorite, at least at the moment. What has impacted you and why. Is there a verse you would consider tattooing on your arm because it means something so significant? (Please don’t do that, I only want you to daydream about what message might be that important to you is all).
I also want to share a perspective with you that came up at Alpha this week. Follow my logic here if you are able and see if this tracks:
– Jesus is the Word of God (Gospel of John 1:1-5) made man.
– He was present from the beginning of creation
– The Bible is also the Word of God
– Does it then make sense that the message of the Bible is another form of Jesus that we hold in our hands and directly physically and intellectually interact with as much as we want to?
– If that’s the case, then do we treat our use of the Bible as if we are listening to God/Jesus speak to us? If the Bible is truly a form of God in its message, should we desire to have it in our lives so much more?
– If Jesus is the Word, then could we say the Holy Spirit is the Breath of God? It makes more sense if you consider that there is no life without God. God breathes life into the world. It’s as if there is an electric power source that motivates life to happen, and by extension everything that life does. If that’s the action or mechanism of the Holy Spirit, then can we truly connect with that power of life? It’s a stretch. Kind of a working theory for now. I’m trying to find a way to make sense of the Trinity for the kids in RCIC and it’s constantly on my mind lately.
The Fr Larry video we watched is only 3 minutes long, but worth the watch again i think. Here is the link to where I’ve posted it (edited – just look through the videos on this page, its there). My favorite part is where he tells us that God says “How come you come into my presence, and look at you? Why don’t you come into my presence and look at me?”
