Not so long ago, one of our members talked about insurance coverage from the Knights for unborn children. I asked our agent to clarify for me. This is the message he sent me to share with the members on this question.
The Order will pay a death benefit to a family who has a stillbirth after 20 weeks, as well as to a family whose child dies within 61 days after birth. Some conditions apply, such as the member must be in good standing with his council and at least one of the parents should have their own KofC insurance policy.
In addition, there’s also a way to guarantee coverage for children who are not yet conceived! We have a Child rider that can be added to one of the parent’s policies at issue that will provide up to $20,000 of term insurance per child until they turn 26 (subject to underwriting), but it also automatically covers all future children born to that parent (from day 15 after birth). That rider can be converted into a permanent plan (with up to five times the amount) when the child reaches the age of 26.
These provisions are meant to assist families and to underscore the Order’s prolife commitment. Details are available on the Member Benefit flyer. I will be happy to discuss in greater detail with anyone who wishes to know more about these benefits.
