Hello Brother Knights
It seems we have at least one (or maybe more than one), young fellow who has been helping at breakfasts and finding ways to get involved with KC activities, and he has mentioned that he cant wait to become 18 and be able to join the Knights.
In the past we had a Squire Circle, which, for those of you who don’t already know, is like a mini council led and managed by young member boys, sponsored and chaperoned by Knights from the Council. Its a great idea but does not have a lasting affect as there is just too much turnover too quickly in a youth led organization like that. So it inevitably fizzles out over a short period of time without a tremendous amount of oversight and support.
The idea was raised at our Executive Meeting recently that maybe there is a way we can somehow recognize a youth as an honorary member somehow and include them on awards, activities, programs etc. Some way to foster the interest and growth of potential future members in a group mentorship style. I can see the potential of this and would like to push forward with workshopping this idea and what it might look like outside of a formal Squire Circle program. Obviously it will require compliance with the Safe Environments training provided by both the order and the archdiocese. That is easily addressed though.
If anyone has any ideas about how something like this could work, please speak up and lets get some pen to paper on it so we can figure it out.
Thank you all
