84 Days left in this Columbian year. What to do with what we have left?
I’m not sure I would say that we achieved a remarkable amount of things in our first 281 days, however I would certainly argue that we have enjoyed the fruits of many of the efforts this year. Once again we have had many people step up and lead or support various programs for us. Our faith formation has taken a small step forward as well, and our support for ProLife has evolved slightly to support our parish ProLife leaders in Michelle and Bruce Lamer. Our website is up and running, even though its still a bit of a work in progress, and Fr. Mathew has graciously allowed us to publish his homilies to our website for people to review and revisit. And we have been fortunate enough to welcome a solid group of new and younger members to the council, that seem to have a desire to participate. So we have a lot of things going for us as we reach the last few months of this year, and enter the beginning of next year with our new executive.
FACEBOOK & INSTAGRAM
We now have a council Facebook page. Two actually. One is for the council and one is a group page for the council. If I’m honest, I have no idea what the difference really is between them. But we needed a council Facebook page in order to properly link our council Instagram page to our website (by the way we have an Instagram page, thanks Br. Ethan Fish). The whole objective there is to have a space for us to post the photos we are collecting along the way of things and people that we are working with. Instagram seemed like a good tool to do that with. And there is a tool on our website to automatically update photos from Instagram. But in order to connect those two and provide a shared log in to several members who will participate and oversee it, we needed the Facebook page to make it happen. I guess that’s a long roundabout way to achieve what might have been achieved in a simpler way. But its here now for us to use and post to. I would invite anyone who wants to, to post KC, Leduc, St. Michael’s or Catholic related items to the FB pages. Also if you have pictures to share or post, we can start adding our history in photos to the FB and Instagram pages. I am planning to take the time to start scanning in the old photos we have in our closets and cabinets to be added to this for the council, but that will probably be a next year project. One of our members brought up the idea of maybe joining the Black Gold Parade this year in May, similar to when we used to be in it. It turns out that the Beaumont council currently owns the Santa Maria parade float and are willing to rent it to us for the Leduc parade. We are looking for one or two members to take this on as a small project, which would include registering for the parade (free on the website), coordinating with Beaumont to pick up and return the float, and recruiting any members or families who would like to participate in the parade. I believe the 4th degree is being approached to provide an honor guard of members in regalia for the parade as well. It would not likely be a complicated or difficult project to lead. If anyone has the ability and willingness to take this on, please let me or any of the council executives know. There are already a couple people willing to assist.
USHERS for EASTER WEEK
We have a good start on a schedule for Easter week ushers, but for anyone who is able and willing, we will always take more. It’s a good way to get your feet wet with some more experienced guys, so that you can one day take on a role like this with little help. Ushering at the parish is a commitment the KC council made to support the parish, and we have had a long LONG history of leading this ministry of volunteers. Its my hope that we can continue to push forward with this as a visible display of our support of the parish at all masses, regardless of the need for people to be seated. It also plays a role in greeting and assistance to those who may need it. We can sometimes take it for granted, but it’s a fairly important role at the mass, and it comes with its own set of rules to follow to remain respectful of the liturgy that is going on around it. Come and take the training, come and participate with our experienced guys, and come to meet and help our parish as it grows and changes.

I would very much like to thank our Leduc Council for being so open and generous with the other parish functions and groups, in allowing the use of our space when needed, donating to causes for the parish community, and participating in events and tasks when asked for assistance. Being a Knight allows us to sacrifice of ourselves in ways that individuals cannot. It helps demonstrate that the proper order of service is to put God first, then our family, then our community, and then ourselves. The Knights of Columbus do this very well and set a tremendous example to others in the acts of service we do. Thank you for always stepping up for each other and for those we serve.
